Parish Council Information

Barton-le-Clay is a precepting authority – which means that it derives its main source of funding by submitting an annual ‘precept’ to the billing authority; Central Bedfordshire Council. This precept is divided up amongst the Council Tax payers within the parish – resulting in a Parish Council charge per household. This charge is annually itemised on all Council Tax bills. Other funding streams include rents charged on property owned by the parish council, and grants obtained through outside agencies.

More detailed information on the parish council’s finances can be obtained by visiting the Finances section of this website or by contacting the Clerk to the Council.

The Parish Council is empowered by a number of parliamentary acts and legislation to provide a number of local services. These services form the basis of the Parish Council’s work within the community, however the Parish Council also works in partnership with many other organisations such as Central Bedfordshire Council and Bedfordshire Police to improve the services provided by those organisations.
